Creating a Second Income with Coloring Books

Some people, like me, have a passion for writing while others may enjoy writing and creating as a hobby. Well, if the latter describes you, why not make additional income from your hobby? Here’s a simple and cost-effective way to make a few extra bucks with your own coloring book.

Once you come up with the idea, secure an illustrator for your line art. Some of the cost-effective sites include Fiverr or Upwork.

Depending on the length of your book, you may originally have to shell out anywhere from $200+. However, most illustrators will negotiate a price.

Secure an illustrator that does the creative work AS WELL AS FORMATTING FOR SITES LIKE AMAZON. This is very important because if not, you may have to shell out another cost for proper formatting. You can do it yourself, but it's time-consuming, especially for a novice. You can also negotiate pricing with the illustrator to include a front and back cover. This one-stop shop will save you money.

Consider adding in activities. Activities are easy to do and don’t necessarily require any additional cost. For instance, you can do word scrambles and seek and find puzzles as a Word document and then convert to pdf. For difficult activities (crossword puzzles, dot-to-dots, mazes), Some Fiverr and Upwork illustrators can bundle these activities together for as little as $10. Again, be sure to do a little research.

Tip: Research and create a coloring book around what’s missing in the market. If you're stumped on ideas, schoolteachers are a great resource.

Once you have a completed file, upload it to Amazon KDP, which walks you through each step. This is where you set the price and royalty percentages. Once uploaded, it can take up to 72 hours to appear on the Amazon page.

This is all general information, so if you have any questions, feel free to send an email to info@HappyIslandPress.com. Check out my coloring books here, and let me know what you think. If you haven’t already, sign up at www.happyislandpress.com for more tips, plus a FREE girls guide.
